Online Resource Activities
1. MusicplayOnline https://musicplayonline.com/
Prince George County music teachers use this website for much of our curriculum. Musicplay is generously offering FREE subscriptions during the COVID-19 pandemic. You will find songs, games, lessons, and composition tools. On the left-hand sidebars titled "Solfa Practice" and "Rhythm Practice," our 2nd and 3rd graders are using Echo Rhythms and Echo Singing; 4th and 5th are using Echo Rhythms and Read Notation. Kindergartners have been looking at High/Low, Fast/Slow, and Loud/Soft games on the right-hand side of the page. First graders are now looking at the Instruments of the Orchestra page. Lots of fun note-naming games for 4th and 5th grade to practice!
2. VH1's Save the Music Resources
https://www.savethemusic.org/grants/teacher-resources/
Lots of great resources all in one place! Take a look at the resources outlined in orange - these have many great resources for our upper elementary students, many of which are being offered for free during this time. Prince George County uses Sight Reading Factory in choir classes at Moore, Clements, and PGHS, so it is a great tool to get your 5th grader prepared for next year!
3. Chrome Music Lab
https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/Experiments
This site has fun experimental music-making activities that can serve as science experiments or brain breaks. I recommend Song Maker, Rhythm, and Kandinsky. The Kandinsky experiment has kids create music based on the shapes they draw on the page!
4. Visual Musical Minds
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjUxQg9cHiOYqaRdtZ6pfoQ
Awesome Youtube videos with multicultural songs & games, music theory, recorder, and ukulele activities. Try one of these videos for your child's musical lesson, or use a fun song as a brain break!
5. Classics for Kids
https://www.classicsforkids.com/
This site has great composer worksheets for when you want to combine your English lessons with your music lessons! Listen to excerpts of the works from some famous composers. I'd recommend grades 2+
6. Online Music Games https://cornerstoneconfessions.com/2012/08/the-ultimate-list-of-online-music.html
Try one game from each of the categories a day to make learning fun!
